New Bedford is the sixth largest city in Massachusetts, and 13th largest in New England with an estimated population of 95,072. Located in Bristol County near the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border, New Bedford is neighbored by Dartmouth, Freetown, Acushnet, Fairhaven, and Buzzards Bay. New Bedford can be accessed via I-195, Route 140, Route 18, and Route 6.

The city is divided into four main neighborhoods: North End, Sassaquin, West End, and South End, with the North End being the largest. New Bedford is also served by New Bedford Regional Airport, which makes flights and charters to Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, New York, and other destinations in New England.

A coastal city, New Bedford’s economy has long been driven by the fishing, and prior to that whaling, industries. Much of New Bedford’s early history can be found in the  New Bedford Whaling Museum, which is part of the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, the largest in the United States.

New Bedford continues to be a major New England port, although its economy is now more diversified. The manufacturing and health care industries have surged in recent years providing a large amount of jobs for New Bedford residents.
