Summer is a great time to get a lot of things done, including deliveries. One thing about summer that we need to take into account is safety. Not just safety in general, but safety from the heat. To ensure you are making deliveries during the summer in a safe manner, follow these tips.
Hydration – This is the most important tip that should go without saying. Even though you are driving, you are still moving packages when you reach the destination. This action uses a lot of energy and strain. Add in the high temperatures and humidity of summer and if you are not hydrated, things could end up bad. So make sure you have water around you at all times during the process, and make sure whoever is helping you has water around as well.
Clothing – Depending on your company you may have a uniform or not. If you have the freedom to wear your own clothes. Make sure that you wear light and comfortable clothing, and light colors to reflect the sun. It may not be a big deal to you now, but the sun and heat can be bothersome after long hours on the road on top of helping with deliveries. In addition, make sure to wear sunscreen as to avoid getting the trucker tan. Light clothing and sunscreen are always a good idea to manage the heat from summer.
AC – Air conditioning is one thing that will be on at all times during deliveries. Even though you are inside of a truck, it is well known that the inside of vehicles get hot on the inside. Especially when it is very humid outside and the sun is beating down. Make sure that, when appropriate, that you have the air conditioning running so you do not get overheated. This will also make your ride much more enjoyable to endure in the summer.
